This blog and its author
Hi. Thanks for dropping by. Really.
You’ve reached Daniel Angel Bradford’s small corner of the Interwebs. Currently, I am a PhD candidate at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, where I spend most of my time working on my thesis about digital literacies and skills, under the guidance of Dr. Mark Gibson and Dr. Anthony Moore and hoping that drinking large amounts of coffee will somehow give me some good ideas. My other topics of interest are Internet and democracy, new media and public policy and free culture.
Beyond academia, I have worked as a web professional, acquiring over a decade of experience, mainly in the areas of web content accessibility and application development.
About the blog
This site has been around since may 2001 in multiple (and quite different) manifestations, but I just recently decided to make my rants public. I write about the stuff I feel passionate about: my research, technology, politics, free open source software and films, among other topics. All contents and graphics are released under the Free Art License, which means you may use the stuff in any way you please, as long as you credit me and use the same license (or a compatible one) if you modify it. I have taken great care in making this site as accessible as possible. If you feel there is room for improvement, please let me know.
The name is a humble homage to my favorite movie of all time: Milcho Manchevski’s Before the Rain. I don’t want to spoil it for you, so I’ll only tell you that the (slightly cryptic) premise of the movie is that the circle is not round. This, of course, makes sense once you’ve seen it. If you come across this movie, do yourself a favour and watch it. You won’t regret it. It changed my life.
A quick note about the language
I’m a native Spanish speaker, but I choose to write in English for several reasons. I currently reside in an English-speaking country and my academic work requires me to write in English. The fact that it has become a de facto lingua franca allows me to reach much more people. I find it silly to speak anything other than Spanish with fellow Spanish speakers and vow never to do so.
